The Devil Wears Prada begins with a montage of women preparing for work. They select their clothes carefully. They apply makeup. They coordinate underwear, shoes, bags, and accessories. Their movements are meticulous because appearance is part of the professional language of their industry. Then there is Andy Sachs. Andy throws on whatever is available, grabs an onion bagel, and arrives at one of the most influential fashion magazines in the world without knowing anything about fashion, Runway , or Miranda Priestly.
